P1 Wynne - The Story of 5

8th Feb 2018

In Numeracy, we have been doing lots of adding. This week, we have been exploring the number 5 and seeing how many ways we could find to make 5. We found 6 different ways!!

We used towers of cubes to help us. We snapped our towers in two, and counting how many were in each hand. Now we are able to record the sums. We know that '+' means add, and or plus and that '=' means altogether makes, is the same as or equals. We were able to write sums like, 5+0=5, 4+1=4, 3+3=5 etc.

We also used the cuisannaire rods to show the story of 5. We found all the different lengths up to 5 and used them to show the story.

At home, you could use Lego or cars or spoons to show your adult some of the different ways to make 5.
