Year Six STEM Formula 1 Challenge
Over the last three months, our class have been working immensely hard on the STEM Formula 1 Challenge. We were put into groups of four. Our group members were Tess, Aleena, James and Matthew. We had to design a car, present a PowerPoint, make a pit stop and create a design portfolio. Our team was called “Speed Breakers” and our slogan was “Born to Race.” We designed our car using a program called Silhouette Studio. We used a special cutting printer to cut out our cars on thin card. We would like to thank our brilliant sponsors, Allstate, Fintra Dentist, Innovision Corporation and Carville Recruitment.
Our teacher had to pick a group to go to Ballymena to participate in the Northern Ireland Regional Final. We found out that all our hard work had paid off when Mr Doran told us that we were going to go to Ballymena.
On 25th February all three groups from Year 6 set off for the Ballymena Recreation Centre. We had a marvellous and exciting day. We raced our car, presented our PowerPoint and showed our pit stop and portfolio to the judges. It was a great experience – even though we didn’t win anything!
