Year 7 Maguire - Polyhedron Investigation
19th Nov 2020
A ‘Polyhedron’ is a shape with many sides. The Greek word ‘Poly’ means many and the Greek word ‘Hedron’ means bases. In our investigation, we had to find a formula that links the number of faces, vertices and edges on a range of polyhedra. Some of the 3D shapes we constructed using clixi were as follows; dodecahedron, icosahedron, tetrahedron, and octahedron. Using the data recorded we then had to predict the number of edges on an icosidodecahedron and an rhombicosidodecahedron. This was a thoroughly enjoyable practical maths lesson.
