Year 6 Mc Auley Fair Trade Assembly.
Year 6 Mc Auley are learning about Fair Trade in their World Around Us lessons.
On Friday they had their assembly. They sang a song a called "Fair Trade I Should Coco". It was a very catchy tune. They acted a scenario of a coco farm .There were two plantation owners who worked together but did not work with Fair Trade. The farmers were treated very badly and they were unhappy especially as they could not see their families. The Fair Trade organiser came in and educated the owner about Fair Trade and ensured that people were treated fairly, and got a stable income.
It was an excellent scenario as it highlighted to all the pupils the poor conditions these farmers worked in, the fact that they could not send their children to school as they were very poor and they needed the children to work on the coco plantations to earn money. The message is that we should encouraged others to purchase Fair Trade products as the farmers who work under the Fair Trade umbrella are treated fairly by their owners.
Year 6 Mc Auley are enjoying learning about Fair Trade and will be purchasing Fair Trade products in the future where possible.
