Year 6 Advent / Christmas Assembly

30th Nov 2018

Today Year 6 Mc. Mahon had their school assembly for their parents. It was about Advent and the spirit of Christmas.  It was about how Christmas is not all about chocolate and things but about celebrating the birth of Jesus.

We had an advent wreath made out of all our paper hands. We had real candles and some girls and boys lit them and explained the meaning of each candle. There was the prophesy candle which was lit first. It was purple. Next was the peace candle which was also purple. Then there was the love candle which was pink and then the Joy candle which was purple. Finally there was the white candle which is lit on Christmas Day. People the shared their Christmas traditions like in James' house they give Santa a good glass of bear and Meabh  and Rionach wake up to a Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer alarm clock.

In our assembly we also had Odhran as our MC who was cracking jokes. He was funny. We recited a poem called "The Night Before Christmas". Some of the boys and girls acted it out. We also had a parody of the Twelve Days of Christmas. We changed the world of the original song to our own words which you can see below.  At the end we sang Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

The parents took pictures and we got lots of hugs. It was Christmastastic!
