Year 5 (Mrs McAllister's class) Go Foraging at Minnowburn Forest!

26th Sep 2019

On Thursday 26th September, Mrs McAllister’s class met Mick and Paula from the National Trust at Minnowburn Forest near Shaw’s Bridge. They told us very interesting things about the plants and fruits that grow in Minnowburn in Autumn time. We learned about how people who lived on the Earth thousands of years ago found food in the forest and what natural materials they used to make ropes and places to shelter. We brought containers with us and collected lots of plant, apples, berries, nuts and leaves.

We wore our ordinary clothes, a rain jacket and our waterproof shoes or boots. That was fun and luckily, it did not rain, even though the weather forecast predicted rain might fall! Nick and Paula spoke to us about the importance of looking after our natural world and protecting it, especially now that climate change is happening. They told us that the young people of today are the hope for tomorrow. We really enjoyed the trip. It taught us so much. We saw such interesting things!
