Year 5 Mc Allister Visit The Water Treatment plant
As part of our WAU in class we have been learning the importance of water. We recently visited a water treatment plant . It was interesting. When we were walking around the plant we had to wear rubber gloves, a high viz vest and a hard hat. This was to keep us safe. The most interesting thing I learnt was that if you fill up a bath fully it holds 80 litres of water. That is such a waste of water. They told us it is better to have a shower although if you have a 5 minute shower you will use 27 litres which is still a lot of water.
We saw where the sewage from the toilet is collect. It was so smelly. We saw lots of skips with mountains of wet wipes in them. These had been flushed down the toilet. We were told that you can only put three Ps down the toilet- paper, pee and poo!!!! We learnt that if you flush plastic wet wipes down the toilet they do not disintegrate however the toilet roll does break up which means that it is easier to clean the water.
Now that I am home I am going to use less water and I am not going flush wet wipes or cotton buds down the toilet! I am going to spread the word to all the people I know!
