P5 McAuley Mummify a Tomato!
10th Jan 2024
While studying the Ancient Egyptians we have been learning about the mummification process! We looked at the different stages the Ancient Egyptians took to mummify a body. To get an even better understanding we became Ancient Egyptians for our topic lesson and used a similar process to mummify a tomato. We had lots of fun using different resources to create a mummified tomato. We made predictions about what we think might happen and back in Ancient Egyptian times they would have waited 40 days however, we will waited about 2 and half weeks to see our results!
To 'mummify' a tomato we did the following:
1) Cleaned the tomato (inside and out)
2) Scooped out the seeds
3) Cleaned the inside with sanitiser
4) Filled the tomato with a mixture of salt and baking powder.
We also have a 'control' tomato which we didn't fill with salt/baking powder. We compared our control tomato with our mummified tomatoes and the results were interesting to say the least!
Have a look at all our pictures and the instructions we used to see if you can see the steps we took!
