P2 School Closure Information
18th March 2020
Dear parents,
As you are aware, school will be closed for a period of time. We have put together a pack of work for your child to complete. We understand that teaching your family at home will be challenging and do not want to add pressure at an already stressful time. Do what you can! This pack should last up until Easter, so be sensible and do a small amount each day. What follows is a brief explanation of the activities.
Reading-
We have included your child’s Reading Activity exercise book in their folder. This will give you an idea of the types of questions to ask or written activities you can do.
- Comprehension questions- should be answered in full sentences in their homework books. There is one activity per week.
- Character profile.
- Story board- children choose the four most important events and illustrate and describe.
- Little Red Riding Hood punctuation- rewrite the sentences using capital letters and full stops.
- Book report x2- choose a book at home and complete.
- You may like to Google the first 300 sight words and continue to go over these. Choose 4 or 5 words your child doesn’t know each week.
Writing
- Plant and animal compare and contrast- children draw a plant and animal and then list words to describe each. Write things that are the same and different about them.
- Recount grid on Saint Patrick’s Day weekend- fill in key words and pictures. Use this to write a recount. Remember to use time words, add detail and conclude with a personal comment.
- How to plant a seed- children complete sheet, remembering to begin each step using a number and a bossy verb. End with what you do to check you are successful.
Talking and Listening
- Odd one out- Match the label to the picture and say which object is the odd one out and why. E.g. the hammer is the odd one out because you hit things with it but a drill and screw driver turn things.

- Pentagon/hexagons worksheet- cut and stick and sort into pentagons and hexagons.
- Complete money booklet.
- Counting in 5s and 10s worksheets- fill in the missing number, sort numbers and colour the pattern.
- 3D shapes worksheet- label 3D shapes and name/draw objects that you see.

- You might like to set up a toy shop, label/price the items and do some money work e.g. making amounts, change from 20p, adding totals.
- Every day do ten adding sums and ten subtraction sums within 20 or if you’d like a challenge try up to 30.
- Throughout the day look at the clock and have a go at telling the time- e.g. it is nearly half past 1.
- Continue to revise days of the week, months of the year, seasons, and number names.

Please continue to check the school website, your email and text messages for further information. If the school is to remain closed for a further period of time you will get further instructions and updates.
Thank you,
P2 teachers
PS If a sheet mentioned isn’t in your pack it is because your child has already completed it in school.
