P1 Merron visit from the Nanny

20th May 2022

Today Nanny Thomson from Mount Stewart came to visit our classroom. She was the lady that looked after Mary the youngest child of Lord and Lady Londonderry. Nanny Thomson told us all about their big house and all the animals they had. The house had 22 bedrooms so was very big! They had lots of dogs, flamingos and alligators. Mary's favourite animal was a goat called 'Paddy from Cork'.

Nanny Thomson brought in Mary's toys. She brought in an old teddy bear with hardly any fur (Mary had cuddled it so much), she brought in a delicate doll, a rag doll, Russian dolls, a Trapeze artist and a wind-up toy called Woody the Woodpecker. They were made from wood, porcelain, metal (tin) and materials. Some toys you can wind up and others you had to move it a certain way to make it work. We loved watching the Jack in the box jump out of the box! We even did a magic trick and made a coin disappear. We loved seeing all the toys. At the end Nanny Thomson let us play with the toys and it was so much fun!! Turns out old toys are lots of fun! :)
