Outdoor Learning in P2 O'Prey
On Tuesday the weather cleared long enough for the children to wrap up warm and head outside. Last week Mrs O'Prey showed the children how she filled up water balloons with water. She then put them in the freezer. The children predicted that the water would turn to ice. They were right. The children worked in groups of 3 to do an experiment. They observed what happened to the lump of ice when they added salt and water. The salt made the ice become rough and crinkly, it began to melt. When the lump of ice was placed into the container of water it melted too. The children took the ice back to the classroom and noticed it began to melt faster inside. They concluded that ice melts faster inside because it is warmer! Maybe you might like to make some icebergs by filling up a balloon with water and popping in in the freezer overnight. What happens if you add some food colouring?
