Mr Smiley came to visit P.4 McIlroy
A very good friend of Jamie C. called Mr. Smiley, came to visit our class today. The reason for his visit was to tell us what it was like to be a small child growing up during WW2. We had wonderful questions prepared for Mr. Smiley’s visit and he thanked us for bringing back to him very special memories such as, having to get out of school early because his Uncle Tom had returned home from a Prisoner of War camp in Japan. Mr Smiley brought in some handmade toys he and his wife played with as children and a photograph of his family home. In the end we thanked Mr Smiley for coming and gave him a card with a box of chocolates. He said that, in WW2 the chocolates would have been a months’ worth of rationing.
