BBC Reporter Declan Lawn Gets Interviewed by John Patrick
Today BBC reporter Declan Lawn, my dad, came into our class to tell us about being a journalist.
First Declan introduced himself to the class and answered some of our questions. He told us to get a piece of paper and pen and he said he was going to interview Mrs Maguire.
Declan then talked to us about how important Newspaper reports are and how much it can have an impact on what happens in the world. He chose one person to interview him; John-Patrick.
He asked Declan a few questions such as, “How long do you stay in work every day Declan?” and, “What was your favourite documentary?” After Declan was interviewed by John-Patrick he got out some newspapers and gave them out to each table. He told us we had to find three different types of articles; they were News, Foreign and Opinion pieces.
We asked Declan a few more questions about different types of journalism. He said there are T.V journalists, undercover journalists, investigative journalists, sports and many more! Declan also said that it is the job of every journalist to tell you something new. That is where the word ‘News’ comes from. Declan then asked us all to write an opinion piece about anything we wanted. This meant we had to write something from our own point of view. I wrote a piece of persuasive writing on NO HOMEWORK!
Finally, Declan had to go as he needed to get to an important interview in Fermanagh for Spotlight. Our whole class really enjoyed Declan’s visit!
