Year 5 McAllister - Mrs Hall Visit - Outdoor Study
On the 9th of March Mrs Hall from Ulster Wildlife came to McAllister’s class to tell us why nature is important. She gave us pictures of healthy and unhealthy foods and we learned about how nature was so important in providing us with the foods we need. After a while in the classroom the children, Mrs Hall, Mrs McAllister and Miss Grace went outside into the Peace Garden to do five activities. The first activity was to pretend to be a small creature and draw a picture of our insect homes. And the view we would have from it. Next we used our listening stones to help us listen to the sounds of nature all around us. After that we blindfolded each other and touched a tree to examine the bark and its shape. Then we used a mirror to see where all the insects lived by putting the mirror under leaves and into bushes. Finally we made a picture with leaves, twigs and other things on the ground. We had a really enjoyable and educational Nature morning.
