Year 3 Cowan Windy Day Toys
During structured play in March our class were learning about good toys for a windy day outside.
First we went outside. We played with some windy toys and had fun investigating how bubbles, parachute men and windmills move in the wind.
Then we came inside and decided to design and make our own toys for a windy day. We talked about our designs and how they would work well.
Next we chose the materials we would need to make our toy. We decided that our material would have to be very light-weight if they were to move well in the wind. We used materials we had around the classroom, such as, plastic bags, plastic cups, paper, string and tissue paper.
After that we went outside to try out our toys in the wind. Some of the toys worked better than others. Emmet’s plastic bag kite moved really well in the wind.
Finally we showed our toys to the rest of the class. We made parachutes, bubble sticks and kites out of different materials.
Everyone was very impressed with what we had made and were looking forward to making their own toys. We really enjoyed making windy toys and look forward to taking them home so we can try them out on a REALLY windy day!
